2019亚洲科学夏令营的主题为“科学、青年、未来”。持续多天的大师讲座让拥有科学理想的青年有机会近距离聆听大师的“声音”,点燃热爱科学探索未知世界的热情。

 

开营期间,给全体营员进行分享还有中国中医科学院学术委员会委员、青蒿素研究中心学术委员会副主任廖福龙教授,2019年沃尔夫数学奖得主、法兰西学院院士Jean-François Le Gall教授,以色列高能物理委员会主席、原希伯来大学拉卡物理研究所所长Eliezer Rabinovici教授。

 


 

 

中医里的大智慧——葛洪妙方治疟疾,华佗远见助养生

 


 

来自屠呦呦团队的廖福龙教授首先为大家分享了屠呦呦教授与青蒿素之间精彩的故事——如何从中医药古典文献中获取灵感,并逐步成功萃取当代抗疟神药——青蒿素,使得世界数亿人因此受益。紧接着,廖福龙教授讲解了华佗的“五禽戏”并引用其养生之道“血脉流通,病不得生,户枢不朽也”,进一步向营员们介绍血流剪切应力的生物学影响。“经实验证明,通过体育锻炼和中草药治疗相结合可以成功预防动脉粥样硬化。”


 

 

聚精会神

 

营员们对于博大精深的中医药表现出浓厚的兴趣。来自澳大利亚的Zofia之前就听说过中医,但她表示这是她第一次从真正意义上了解中医。“如果以后有机会,很想亲自体验一下。”来自以色列的Dana不停地感叹中医的神奇,学习医学相关专业的她希望未来也可以在这方面有所发展。

 

 

离散随机模型

 


 

Jean Francois Le Gall教授以布朗运动的发现历程作为切入点,向营员们揭示了隐藏在物理现象中的数学模型。从一维随机游走到二维随机游走,再到数学的极限思想……他利用大量丰富的图例,一步步引导营员们深入思考。Jean Francois Le Gall教授以经济学、数学金融学、医学、工业等领域为例,阐明了布朗运动数学模型在各个领域所发挥的积极作用。讲座最后,Jean Francois Le Gall教授还对自回避无规则行走的现象进行阐述,继而抛出当今物理学界的未解之谜,引发营员们思考。

当被问及为何选择布朗运动数学模型作为研究对象时,Jean Francois Le Gall教授表示,数学是很美好的事物,同时也是很有用的工具,布朗运动也是如此。

 

 

 

高能物理学的机遇与挑战

 

 

高能物理是基础学科、当代物理学发展的前沿之一,也是诺贝尔奖青睐的热门学科,其研究对象是微观的物质世界。讲座伊始,Eliezer Rabinovici教授向营员们描述高能物理学研究的宏伟蓝图——发现物质行为的基本规律及其基本成分。他深入浅出地介绍了一些令科学家们着迷的知识点,如电磁力、弱力、有色(强)力和引力的一些基本成分和标准模型等。虽然高能物理学研究目前在理论和实践上还面临不少挑战,但Eliezer Rabinovici教授表示,“它像是有魔力,吸引科学家们不断从事这一领域的研究。”他鼓励营员们:一旦选择了科研的道路,就要认真去钻研,特别是要善于提问、挑战权威,这也是以色列最推崇的教学方法。

The Plenary Sessions, which will last for several days, give young people who have scientific ideals the opportunity to listen to top scientists and ignite the passion to explore the unknown.

 

On Auguest 1, the top scientists who share with the campers their Scientific insights and life experiences include Prof. Liao Fulong, Deputy Director of the Academic Board, Artemisinin Research Center; Prof. Jean Francois Le Gall,Wolf Mathematics Prize winner in 2019, Member of the Académie des sciences and  Prof. Eliezer Rabinovici,Chairman of the Israeli Committee of High Energy Physics of the Israeli Academy of Sciences.

 


 

 

 

The Ancient Wisdom in Traditional Chinese Medicine — Ge Hong's Wise Remedy for Malaria Treatment and Hua Tuo's Incredible Foresight for Health Maintenance

 

 

In the morning on 1st August, Prof. Liao Fulong,who comes from the team of Prof. Tu Youyou, gave us an unusual lecture about Chinese Medicine. For some of foreign students, this is their first time to learn Chinese Medicine professionally.

 

To start with, Prof. Liao Fulong introduced Prof. TU Youyou's personal experience about how she was inspired by ancient wisdom and finally isolated artemisinin, which has benefited millions of people. Then, he talked about Hua Tuo's five animal exercise and mentioned his fitness idea that "diseases are prevented as blood flow is promoted", which is the forsight of biological effects of blood shear stress (SS). Experiment have proved that the combination of exercise (swimming or running) and herbal medicine could prevent atherosclerosis through a synergistic manner.

The students are all interested in this lecture very much. The Australia girl, Zofia, who have heard about Chinese Medicine before, said that this is her first time to learnChinese Medicine. She said if it is possible, she wanted to experience it by herself, who comes from Israel firstly thought it was very interesting and attractive. She is a medical student, and wants to learn something about Chinese Medicine in the future.

 

 

Discrete random models

 

 

Jean Francois Le Gall discussed about the discovery history of Brownian motion to reveal the physical phenomenon behind it. From a one-dimensional random walk to a two-dimensional random walk then to the idea of mathematical limits, he used images to guide campers to think further. Also, he took economics, mathematical finance, medicine, industry and other fields as examples to illustrate Brownian motion mathematical model plays an important role in many fields. At the end of the session, Professor Jean Francois Le Gall presented the model of self-avoiding random walking and put forward the unsolved problems in physics for campers to think and discuss after the lecture.

 

 

Addict into studying  

 

Being asked why he chose the Brownian motion mathematical model as a research project, he said: "Mathematics is beautiful and it's useful in many areas. So does Brownian motion."

 

 

High Energy Physics-Results, Challenges and Magic

 


 

High-energy physics is one of the frontiers of modern physics as well as the popular subject in Nobel Prize, which focuses on the study of micro world. During the lecture, Prof. Eliezer Rabinovici described the big picture of high-energy physics, which is exploring the basic laws and ingredients of objects. Also, he explained some of the basic points such as the standard model of electromagnetic, weak, colored (strong) as well as gravitational forces. Although there are still challenges in physical research, Prof. Eliezer Rabinovici is optimistic. "It seems to have magic that attracts those doing research in this field."

 

He also praised the holding of the ASC, and encourage campers, "Once you choose the way to scientific research, you should dive into it. Keep asking questions and challenging academic authorities. This is also the most recommended teaching method in Israel."
