ASC Moment|涨知识!平行讲座带来前沿科技和智慧火花

2019亚洲科学夏令营期间,营员们除了可以聆听世界级科学家的精彩演讲外,还可以根据个人兴趣,在多场涵盖不同领域的平行讲座中进行选择,进一步领略大师们的讲课风采,深入探索科学的乐趣。

 

昨天下午,平行讲座再次开讲。以色列高能物理委员会主席、原希伯来大学拉卡物理研究所所长Eliezer Rabinovici教授,“80后高铁侠” 、“高温超导磁悬浮技术”四川省科研创新团队带头人邓自刚教授,中科院上海植生生态研究所研究员郑慧琼教授在广东以色列理工学院的三间大教室同时开课,丰富了营员们对同步加速器光源实验科学、高温超导磁悬技术与植物在宇宙空间生长的认识。

 

 中东首个同步加速器实验室SESAME 

 

 

 

Eliezer Rabinovici教授是中东同步加速器光源实验科学与应用国际科学研究中心(SESAME)的创始人之一。SESAME是中东地区首个同步加速器实验室, 其建设旨在提高中东地区科技水平,以科学合作促进和平发展。该中心的同步加速器由太阳能驱动,能提供第三代同步加速器光源,可用于物理、化学、生物、医药、材料科学等领域基础研究。SESAME项目成员包括伊朗、以色列、约旦、土耳其、巴勒斯坦、巴林、塞浦路斯、埃及和巴基斯坦。

 

 

 

Eliezer Rabinovici教授从创始人的角度为大家介绍了SESAME项目是如何在1995年由零开始的。这个故事从欧洲核子研究中心的自助餐厅开始,穿越西奈沙漠,并最终在约旦落成了一个高质量的科学电子加速器。在此过程中,不论是资金、技术、政治环境还是人员的文化背景,他们都面临诸多挑战。但通过大家长达十多年的共同努力,最终克服了困难,并使SESAME得以落成。

 

Rabinovici教授认为,SESAME的特殊性不仅仅在于它是中东地区第一个同步加速器实验室,以及它成功地让身处冲突地区的人民对科学感兴趣,而且它还是第一个完全由太阳能驱动的科学实验室,意义十分重大。

 

 

 高温超导磁悬技术 

 

 

 

最近几年,中国高铁屡屡刷新纪录,成为“中国速度”的代表。那么,未来高铁会是什么样?邓自刚教授可以回答我们。这位37岁的西南交通大学博士生导师,也是此次应邀到亚洲科学夏令营中分享的最年轻的科学家,主要从事高温超导磁悬浮应用基础研究。他主持研制成功我国首条载人高温超导磁悬浮车环形实验线,以及国际首个真空管道高温超导磁悬浮车试验平台。

 

 

 

讲座上,邓自刚教授用文字、图片以及视频等方式,带领营员们分别了解超导体的研究历史背景、传统磁悬浮技术实现的原理(电磁的同性相斥,异性相吸),以及磁悬浮运输相对于传统铁路运输的优势,并详细介绍了的高温超导磁悬浮技术和真空管磁悬浮运输技术。“我们的目标是:时速1000km!”当谈到对以后高速铁路速度的展望时,邓自刚表示,世界上许多国家一直在轨道交通的研发上持续发力,都瞄准了时速1000公里。“目前中国高铁的时速是500km,所以还是有很多路要走的。”

 

 

植物在宇宙空间的生长与迷你空间温室 

 

 

 

郑慧琼教授是中科院上海植生生态研究所研究员,其团队专注于在宇宙空间环境下种植植物,通过使植物搭乘“神舟四号”等中国飞船进入太空,从而研究微重力对植物生长发育的影响。

 

 

 

“为什么我们要在太空中做植物研究?”郑慧琼认为,在太空中研究植物首先是出于探索生命本质的需要,其次也是人类发展的需要。讲座中,郑慧琼从宇宙空间的定义、环境以及在宇宙空间种植植物的困难切入,向营员们一一介绍了植物在宇宙空间的生长与迷你空间温室,并以“天宫二号”上搭乘的植物为例,展示了植物在宇宙空间的生长与在地面生长的不同以及迷你空间温室原理。


 

“我觉得讲座很有趣,这是我第一次接触以宇宙空间为主题的讲座。”以色列营员Or Zoi Solomony说。

 

 

 


 

 

In addition to plenary sessions, which provide opportunities for young people who have scientific enthusiasm to learn from world-class scientists, the 2019 Asian Science Camp also includes parallel lectures covering different fields for campers to choose based on their interests. These lectures enable campers to dive deeper into scientific research.

 

In the afternoon on July 31th, Prof. Eliezer Rabinovici,Chairman of the Israeli Committee of High Energy Physics of the Israeli Academy of Sciences; Prof. DENG Zigang,provincial innovation team leader of High-Temperature Superconducting (HTS) Maglev technologies at State Key Laboratory of Traction Power of Southwest Jiaotong University and Prof. ZHENG Huiqiong, Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences/Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered their lectures separately in GTIIT classrooms with the topics of discrete random model, computer data processing as well as ultra-intense and ultra-short lasers and application.

 

 

 SESAME – A Source of Light in the Middle East 

 

 

 

Prof. Eliezer Rabinovici is one of the founding fathers of SESAME, a Light Source in Jordan. He introduced to campers that SESAME is a cooperative venture by scientists and governments of the Middle East set up on the model of CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research). The current members of SESAME are Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Israel, Jordon, Pakistan, the Palestinian Authority, and Turkey. The Synchrotron Light source can be used by researchers to study a large variety of scientific questions.

 

Prof. Eliezer Rabinovici described from a founder's view point about how his project started from zero in 1995. The story began at the CERN cafeteria, crossing the Sinai desert, and eventually to the completion of a high-quality scientific electron accelerator in Jordon. In this process, they faced many challenges, whether in terms of the capital, technology, political environment or cultural background of personnel. But through joint efforts for more than ten years, they finally overcame the difficulties and made SESAME a success.

 

Prof. Rabinovici thought that SESAME is special not only because it is the first center of its kind in the Middle East, but because it managed to make people who are in conflict zones interested in science. It is also the first scientific laboratory driven entirely by solar power, which is really significant.

 

 

 High Temperature Superconducting Maglev Technologies 

 

 

 

In recent years, Chinese high-speed rail technology has developed rapidly and become the symbol of Chinese speed.  In order to further increase the speed and convenience, Prof. Deng have dived himself into research High Temperature Superconducting Maglev technologies. Under Prof. Deng's organization and execution, the first manned HTS Maglev Ring Test in China and world's first Evacuated Tube HTS Maglev Vehicle Test System were developed successfully.

 

During the speech, Prof. Deng used text, pictures and videos to help campers learn about the background of superconducting, the theory of typical Magnetic Levitation Technologies (like charges repel and unlike charges attract),and the advantage of Maglev compared with traditional railway transport. What's more, Prof. Deng gave an introduction in detail for High Temperature Superconducting Maglev technologies and Evacuated Tube Maglev Transportation. When talked about the prospects for the high-speed rail, Prof. Deng said, "The next goal is 1000km/h. The current speed in China is 500km/h. We still have a long way to go."

 

 

 Plant in space and mini space green house 

 

 

 

Prof. Zheng Huiqiong is the researcher of Center for Excellence in Molecular Plant Sciences/Institute of Plant Physiology and Ecology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, China. She lead a team focused on growing plants in space environments. Her lab sent plants into space aboard Chinese spacecraft ShenZhou to learn how microgravity affects plant growth and development.

 

"Why should we do research on planting in the space?" Prof. Zheng deemed it as the way to explore the essence of life and a pivotal step to the human development. In the lecture, she brought out the topic "plant in space and mini space green house" by introducing the space and its environment. Then she took the plants in TianGong-2 as an example to show the difference between plants grown on the ground and in the space as well as the theory of the mini green house.

 

"I think it is interesting. It is the first time for me to listen to a lecture about space," Or Zoi Solomony from Israel said.
